Wakefield Varsity Warriors took down Falls Church Varsity Jaguars 7-4 on Tuesday at Wakefield High School.
Falls Church Varsity Jaguars got on the board in the top of the first inning after Luke Hutchinson singled, and James Schaal hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.
Wakefield Varsity Warriors tied the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a sacrifice fly by Sawyer Buchanan, and a single by Chase Daub.
Wakefield Varsity Warriors flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 7-2. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Buchanan following a 6-pitch at-bat that drove in two.
Buchanan earned the win for Wakefield Varsity Warriors. The pitcher gave up six hits and two runs over five innings, striking out six and walking two. Darren Nong (L) took the loss for Falls Church Varsity Jaguars. The lefty went one and one-third innings, surrendering seven runs (five earned) on six hits, striking out none and walking two. Miles McBride threw two innings of shutout ball for Wakefield Varsity Warriors in relief. The reliever gave up one hit, striking out three and walking none.
Wakefield Varsity Warriors accumulated nine hits in the game. Buchanan provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Wakefield Varsity Warriors with three runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Charlie Quinn led Wakefield Varsity Warriors with two hits in three at bats. Jowell Gomez led Wakefield Varsity Warriors with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game. Wakefield Varsity Warriors stole five bases in the game.
