Wakefield High School Athletics and Activities should be an important element in the development of our students. Our mission is to provide a broad based activities program available to all students in an environment where student athletes have the opportunity to reach their full potential through athletic competition, character development, community service, and teamwork.
Our teams are guided by the following principles:
1. We embrace the idea of providing a balanced program of academics and athletics
2. We value each program equally and will support each team appropriately
3. We will field competitive teams and will continue to uphold Wakefield’s standard of excellence
4. We will teach our student-athletes the value of dedication, determination, discipline, teamwork, and how to be good sports in victory and defeat.
5. We will foster an environment in which effort, growth, and improvement are valued and individuals can fully reach their potential.
6. We value good sportsmanship, fair play, and respect from our athletes, coaches, officials, opponents, and spectators at all times
7. We encourage multiple sport participation at all levels
8. We believe that coaches are role models and teachers who help build character, develop skills, and inspire individuals and teams to get the most out of their abilities.
9. We will provide clearly defined expectations for coaches, students, and parents by outlining school policies, program goals, and evaluation procedures.
The athletic experience at Wakefield is defined by the following elements:
1. Performing at or above expectations in the classroom and on the “playing field”
2. Teaching athletes values and life skills beyond the rules of the game
3. Developing and supporting athletes in each individual sport
4. Supporting student-athletes that desire to and are capable of performing at the collegiate level
5. Establishing clearly understood and documented guidelines for athletes and parents
6. Effectively communicate (athletes, coaches, athletic staff, parents, spectators)
