Regan Hughes was dominant in the circle, as the pitcher rang up 13 strikeouts in Wakefield Varsity Warriors’s 7-4 victory over Washington-Liberty on Thursday. Hughes gave up 10 hits and four runs over seven innings while walking two.
An error put Wakefield Varsity Warriors on the board in the top of the first.
Wakefield Varsity Warriors added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Lucy Strawn tripled to right field, and Hannah Nilame hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.
Zoe Schroeder took the loss for Washington-Liberty. The hurler went seven innings, giving up seven runs (three earned) on six hits, striking out six and walking three.
Strawn and Julia Mitzen were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Wakefield Varsity Warriors while hitting back-to-back. Strawn drove the middle of the lineup, leading Wakefield Varsity Warriors with two runs batted in. The third baseman went 2-for-3 on the day.
Washington-Liberty amassed 10 hits in the game. Loren Keymer drove the middle of the lineup, leading Washington-Liberty with two runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Lillian Nix, Giuliana Horne, and Lilah Hoffman each collected two hits for Washington-Liberty.
